Project Description
This project, completed during my honours year at Swinburne, was my 2022 submission to the ISTD. The challenge: To respond to Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique with a typographic identity that reflects the evolution of feminist identity through its various incarnations. The approach: I created On Her Shoulders—a nod to “standing on the shoulders of giants”—as a festival celebrating women’s historical legacy through light projections on Melbourne’s significant buildings. The event featured broadsheet-style maps and an app to guide users through key locations, ensuring a seamless and enriching experience. The result: The project earned a pass from the ISTD, granting me membership, and my thesis research was awarded the ‘Denise Whitehouse Honours Research Award’ at Swinburne for academic achievement.
